1929 Bygget som hvalbåt KOS VII ved Smith's Dock Co., Ld., Middlesbrough for Hvalfangerselskapet Kosmos A/S (Anders Jahre), Sandefjord. Den var en av en serie på syv hvalbåter som Anders Jahre bestilte samtidig som KOSMOS ble bestilt.Som vi husker ifra brevet som Anders Jahre sendte til ing. Chr. Fred. Christensen i januar 1928 :

PS: Jeg skal også ha 7-8 hvalbåter, sett deg i forbindelse med Smiths Dock. Det haster!

Ferdig bygget 01/07-1929. Kontraktprisen var £ 21.000 for hvert fartøy.
Satt inn i fangst for KOSMOS-ekspedisjonen i alle sesongene som fangstbåt frem til sommeren 1936, kun avbrutt av opplaget i 1933/34.
1934 Sendes ut som bøyebåt for KOSMOS-ekspedisjonen i sesongen 1934/35.
1935 Fangstbåt for KOSMOS i sesongen 1935/36.
1936 Utleid til FRATERNITAS-ekspedisjonen som fangstbåt for sesongen 1936/37.
1937 Utleid til Fl/k ULYSSES som fangstbåt for sesongen 1937/38.
1938 Kommer tilbake til KOSMOS som fangstbåt for sesongen 1938/39.
1940 Innleid av den engelske marine i juli som minesveiper. KOS VII ble omdøpt til HMS DAYBREAK
1946 Returnert til eierne i juni. Reparert og tilbakestillet som hvalbåt i Durban, Sør-Afrika, og fikk tilbake navnet KOS VII. Utleid til ANTARCTIC-ekspedisjonen for fangst i Sydishavet.
1946 Sendt til Sydishavet med KOSMOS IV som bøyebåt for sesongen 1946/47.
1947 Sendt til isen med KOSMOS IV som fangstbåt sesongen 1947/48.
1948 Lagt i opplag i Walvis Bay, Sør-Vest Afrika (Namibia).
1949 I fangst ut fra Cap Lopez, Fransk Kongo (Gabon) med JARAMA-ekspedisjonen. Fangsten starter 19/06-1949 og avsluttes 14/10-1949. Sendes til isen igjen som fangstbåt for KOSMOS IV for sesongen 1949/50.
1950 Fungerer som fangstbåt på kysten av Madagaskar med ANGLO NORSE.
1951 Tilbake på feltet ved Cap Lopez, Fransk Kongo (Gabon) med JARAMA-ekspedisjonen.
1952 Solgt til Whale Products Ltd., Brisbane. Beholder navnet. Settes i fangst fra landstasjonen Tangalooma, Moreton Island frem til 1956.
1957 Solgt til Cheynes Beach Whaling Co Ltd, Brisbane, Australia. Fremdeles med Kos navnet. Fangster fra Frechman Bay, Albany, Australia inntil 1960.
1962 Solgt til J.Franctovich, Freemantle under samme navn. Fortsetter fangst fra Frechman Bay, Albany, Australia frem til 1965.
1968 Nedrigget og senket utefor Australia.

History in english:

1929 Built as whale catcher KOS VII by Smith's Dock Co., Ld., Middlesbrough for Hvalfangerselskapet Kosmos A/S (Anders Jahre), Sandefjord.
This was the last of a serie of seven catchers ordered by Anders Jahre, at same time as the factory KOSMOS was built. We know from a letter written by Anders Jahre to Chr. Fred. Christensen in January 1928:

PS: 7-8 cathers also needed, make contact with the Smith's Dock at once, hurry!

Completed 1/7-1929. Contract price belived to be £ 21.000 for each of the catchers.
Put to serve the factory KOSMOS . Continued as catcher  all seasons until the summer of 1936, only interrupted by the layup priode in the season of 1933/34.
1934 Sent out as buoy boat for KOSMOS-expedition the seaon of 1934/35.
1935 Again cathing for KOSMOS in the season of 1935/36.
1936 Let out to the FRATERNITAS-expedition as catcher for the season of 1936/37.
1937 Let out to Fl/F ULYSSES as catcher the season of 1937/38.
1938 Again serving KOSMOS as catcher the season of 1938/39.
1940 Let out to the Royal Navy (RN) in July as mine sweeper. KOS VII was renamed HMS DAYBREAK
1945 Returned to it's owners in June. Repaired and set back as catcher in Durban, South-Africa, and renamed KOS VII. Let out to the ANTARCTIC-expedition for catching in the Antarctic.
1946 Sent to Antarctic with factory KOSMOS IV as buoy boat the season of 1946/47.
1947 Again sent out with KOSMOS IV, the seaon of 1947/48. This season as catcher.
1948 Laid up in Walvis Bay, South-West Africa (Namibia).
1949 Catching from the shore station in Cap Lopez, French Congo (Gabon) with the JARAMA-expedition. Season started on 19/06-1949 and ended on 14/10-1949. Again joining KOSMOS IV for the season of 1949/50, as catcher.
1950Served as catcher on the coast of Madagascar with the factory ANGLO NORSE.
1951 Returned to the whale fields at Cap Lopez, French Congo (Gabon) with the JARAMA-expedition.
1952 Sold to Whale Products Ltd., Brisbane. Name unchanged. Catching from the landstation Tangalooma, Moreton Island until 1956.
1958 Sold to Cheynes Beach Whaling Co Ltd, Brisbane, Australia. Still by the KOS-name Catching from the Frechman Bay, Albany, Australia until 1960.
1962 Sold to J. Franctovich, Freemantle under same name. Continued cathing from Frechman Bay, Albany, Australia until 1965.
1968 De-rigged and scuttled on the coast of Australia.
