Historikk:

1929 Bygget som hvalbåt KOS I ved Smith's Dock Co. Ltd., Middlesbrough. Levert i mai til Hvalfangerselskapet Kosmos A/S (Anders Jahre), Sandefjord. Gikk til feltet høsten 1929 for å fange for DS/Flk KOSMOS.
Den var en av en serie på syv hvalbåter som Anders Jahre bestilte samtidig som KOSMOS ble bestilt.Som vi husker ifra brevet som Anders Jahre sendte til ing. Chr. Fred. Christensen i januar 1928 :

PS: Jeg skal også ha 7-8 hvalbåter, sett deg i forbindelse med Smiths
Dock. Det haster! (fra boken: ”Kosmos gjennom 25 år”)

Kontraktprisen var £ 21.000 pr.fartøy.
1930 Sesongen 1930/31 i fangst for KOSMOS ekspedisjonen.
1931 Sesongen 1931/32 i opplag.
1932 Sesongene 1932/33 og 1933/34 i fangst for KOSMOS II.
1934 Benyttes som bøyebåt for KOSMOS II i sesongen 1934/35.
1935 Ubenyttet under sesongen 1935/36.
1936 Solgt til Hvalfangerselskapet Antarctic A/S (Bruun & von der Lippe), Tønsberg for NOK 200.000. Beholder navnet. Blir satt i fangst på kysten av Australia med ANGLO NORSE-ekspedisjonen på sommeren. I sesongen 1936/37 flyttes hele ekspedisjonen til kysten av Peru.
1937 Tilbake på Australia-kysten på sommeren. Denne gang i Shark Bay med ULYSSES-ekspedisjonen. Om høsten for sesongen 1937/38, flytter ULYSSES-ekspedisjonen ned til iskanten i Antarktis. KOS I benyttes som bøyebåt.
1938 Sesongen 1938/39 benyttes som fangstbåt. Også denne gang for ULYSSES.
1939 Sesongen 1939/40 i fangst med PELAGOS -ekspedisjonen.
1940 Satt inn i norsk/alliert marinetjeneste som SVOLVÆR med kjennetegn FY-359, som patrulje fartøy med norsk besetning fra 8/7-1940.
1941 I tiden 1941 til 1945 satt tjeneste for Islandsavdelingen.
1945 Tilbakelevert eierne 03/06-1945. Igjen som KOS I.
1946 Fanget med ANTARCTIC-ekspedisjonen fra 1946 til 1951
1952 Solgt i februar til Whale Products PTY.Ltd, Brisbane Australia, navn uendret.
1963 Solgt til Gurley Station Pty. Ltd., Brisbane. Ombygd til tråler,  navn uendret.
1964 Solgt til Ta Hing Co. (Hong Kong?) Ltd., Brisbane.
1971 Senket med hensikt v/ Tangalooma, Queensland. (Het KOS I i alle sivile år).

History in english

1929 Built as whaling catcher KOS I by Smiths Dock, Middlesbrough for Hvalfangerselskapet Kosmos A/S.
This was one of a serie of seven catchers ordered by Anders Jahre as same time as KOSMOS . We know from a letter from Anders Jahre to Chr. Fred. Christensen in January 1928 :

PS: 7-8 cathers also needed, get in contact with the Smith's Dock at once, urgently!

Average contract price became £ 21.000 per vessel.
1930 The whaling seasons 1930/31 catching for the KOSMOS-expedition.
1931 Laid up the season of 1931/32.
1932 The seasons of 1932/33 and 1933/34, catching for KOSMOS II.
1934 In service as buoy boat for the KOSMOS II-expedition in the season 1934/35.
1935 Not in service during 1935/36 season.
1936 Sold to AS Antarctic, Toensberg., for NOK 200.000 and kept the name KOS I. Sent to the coast of Australia with the ANGLO NORSE-expedition in the summer. The season 1936/37 the whole expedition moves to the coast of Peru.
1937 Returned to the coast of Australia during summer. This time in Shark Bay with the ULYSSES-expedition. In the autumn the ULYSSES-expedition moves to the Antarctic for the season of 1937/38. KOS I in service as buoy boat.
1938 The season 1938/39 in service as catcher for ULYSSES.
1939 The season 1939/40 catching with PELAGOS -expedition.
1940 In service as navy ship in the Norwegian/allied constellation and named SVOLVÆR with identification number FY-359. In service as patrol vessel with Norwegian crew from the date 8^th.of July.
1941 In the time between 1941 to 1945 in service for the Iceland-unit.
1945 Returned to the owners 03/06-1945. Renamed as KOS I.
1946 Catching with ANTARCTIC-ekspedisjonen from 1946 to 1951
1952 Sold in February to Whale Products PTY.Ltd, Brisbane Australia, name unchanged.
1963 Sold to Gurley Station Pty. Ltd., Brisbane. Converted to trawler, name unchanged.
1964 Sold to Ta Hing Co. (Hong Kong?) Ltd., Brisbane.
1971 Scuttled at Tangalooma, Queensland the 1st of October. (Carried the name KOS I in all years as a sivil vessel).
