1929 Bygget som hvalbåt KOS II ved Smiths Dock, Middlesbrough for Hvalfangerselskapet Kosmos A/S. Sjøsatt 23/04, ferdigstilt i juli.
Den var en av en serie på syv hvalbåter som Anders Jahre bestilte samtidig som KOSMOS ble bestilt.Som vi husker ifra brevet som Anders Jahre sendte til ing. Chr. Fred. Christensen i januar 1928:

PS: Jeg skal også ha 7-8 hvalbåter, sett deg i forbindelse med Smiths Dock. Det haster!

Kontraktprisen var £ 21.000 for hvert fartøy.
1929 I fangst for KOSMOS-ekspedisjonen i alle sesongene som fangstbåt frem til sommeren 1935.
1935 I opplag.
1936 Solgt til Hvalfangerselskapet Pelagos A/S (Bruun & von der Lippe), Tønsberg. Navn uforandret. Satt i fangst med ANGLO NORSE-ekspedisjonen på kysten av Australia i sommersesongen.
Samme høst flyttet hele ekspedisjonen til kysten av Peru for vinter-sesongen 1936/37.
1937 Solgt til Hvalfangerselskapet Antarctic A/S (Bruun & von der Lippe), Tønsberg. Fremdeles under samme navn. Settes i fangst med ULYSSES-ekspedisjonen fra Shark Bay, Australia som fangstbåt, sesongen 1937/38 med Nils Iversen som skytter.
1937 Sendes til Antarktis med ULYSSES-ekspedisjonen i sesongen 1937/38, som bøyebåt.
1938 Sendes igjen til isen med ULYSSES-ekspedisjonen for sesongen 1938/39. Denne gang som fangstbåt.
1939 Sendes igjen til Antarktis. Denne gang som en del av PELAGOS -ekspedisjonen.
1940 Innleiet som mange andre hvalbåter til tjeneste for Den Norske Marine og ble benyttet som redningsbåt for flybesetninger. Fikk navnet HORTEN
1943 Ble satt inn som anti-ubåt våpen. Opererte som dette frem til krigens slutt.
1945 Returnert til eierne og fikk tilbake sitt opprinnelige navn, KOS II.
1946 I sesongen 1946/47 tilbake i Antarktis, denne gang som en del av ANTARCTIC-ekspedisjonen.
1947 I sesongen 1947/48 drar så KOS II til isen med en ny ekspedisjon. Denne gang med SIR JAMES CLARK ROSS.
1948 Sesongen 1948/49 deltar hun i PELAGOS-ekspedisjonen.
1952 Solgt til Whale Products Pty Ltd, Brisbane, Australia.
1963 Solgt til Gurley Station Pty. Ltd., Brisbane.
1964 Solgt til Ta Hing Co. (Hong Kong?) Ltd., Brisbane.
1966 Solgt videre til Tuna & Trawling Industries Pty. Ltd., Brisbane.

History in english

1929 Built as whaling catcher KOS II by Smiths Dock, Middlesbrough for Hvalfangerselskapet Kosmos A/S. Launched 23/04, completed in July.
This was one of a serie of seven catchers ordered by Anders Jahre as same time as KOSMOS.
We know a note from a letter written by Anders Jahre to Chr. Fred. Christensen in January 1928 :

PS: 7-8 cathers also needed, get in contact with the Smith's Dock at once, urgently!

Contract price belived to be £ 21.000 for each vessel
1929 Cathing for KOSMOS-expedition all seasons until summer of 1935.
1935 Laid up.
1936 Sold to Hvalfangerselskapet Pelagos A/S (Bruun & von der Lippe), Tønsberg. Name unchanged. Catching for the ANGLO NORSE-expedition on the coast of Australia in the summertime.
Later this year the whole expedition moves to the coast of Peru for the winter season 1936/37.
1937 Sold to Hvalfangerselskapet Antarctic A/S (Bruun & von der Lippe), Tønsberg. Still carrying the same name. Catching for the ULYSSES-expedition from Shark Bay, Australia the season of 1937/38 with Nils Iversen as gunner.
1937 Sent to the Antarctic with the ULYSSES-expedition the season of 1937/38, as buoy boat.
1938 Again back in the Antactic the season of 1938/39, with the ULYSSES-expedition. This time as catcher.
1939 Back in Antarctic, and this time as a part of the PELAGOS –expedition.
1940 Hired by the Norwegian Royal Navy (KNM) as many other whale catchers and put in service as a rescue vessel for aircrew. Renamed KNM HORTEN
1943 Started as a anti-submarine vessel , until the end of the WWII.
1945 Returned to owners and renamed KOS II.
1946 In the season of 1946/47 sent back to the Antarctic as a part of the ANTARCTIC-exxpedition.
1947 I the season of 1947/48 KOS II goes to the Antarctic with a new expedition. This time hired by the SIR JAMES CLARK ROSS-expedition.
1948 This season, 1948/49 as a part of the PELAGOS-expedition.
1952 Sold to Whale Products Pty Ltd, Brisbane, Australia.
1963 Sold to Gurley Station Pty. Ltd., Brisbane.
1964 Sold to Ta Hing Co. (Hong Kong?) Ltd., Brisbane.
1966 Further sold to Tuna & Trawling Industries Pty. Ltd., Brisbane.
1974 Scuttled in October off Tangalooma, Queensland, Australia.
